The baby

Last week, Alex and I went to the hospital for our second sonogram. The doctors smeared warm gel on my belly and looked at the baby on the monitor. He was wriggling all over the place! (I've been feeling him kick SO much lately, which is adorable and kind of feels like bubbles.) It was totally sci-fi to see his tiny spine with all the intricate bones, but the most exciting part was seeing his teeny profile. Alex jokes that he looks like a Dr. Seuss character at this point, but we think he's beautiful and are totally enamored. This little photo makes me smile every time I look at it. I love his tiny hand just hanging out there. :)

It's a boy!

Today, our doctor peered at the ultrasound and announced, "It's a boy!" We're thrilled to know that we'll have a sweet bundle of frogs and snails and puppy-dog tails. We cannot wait to meet the little man, and we're going out for burgers tonight in his teeny honor. xoxo

Growing belly

A few readers asked for a belly shot, so Alex snapped one last night. As my friend Caroline says, I'm finally starting to look pregnant, not just like I ate too much mac n' cheese. At 19 weeks along, I'm still squeezing my large self into Old Navy's perfect fit tees, but soon it will be time for some honest-to-goodness maternity shirts. (My button-downs are bursting at the seams.) Now I'm heading uptown to my doctor's appointment to find out if this sweet little baby is a girl or boy! We're so excited. P.S. The belly grew so much in the past two weeks!

Guessing game

My doctor said that at our next appointment--tomorrow--we should be able to find out if we're having a boy or a girl. Alex and I are so excited and have been dying of curiosity. (And there are so many funny old wives' tales!) So, want to take a little poll to see if we can guess? I'd love to hear your predictions -- some people have awesome intuition!
