It's clear that California, Texas, and Washington all have bad deficits. Two of them have 0% income tax while one has 10.6%. What conclusion do you want me to draw from this?

I don't want you to draw any conclusion. I was simply trying to correct what I thought were some misconceptions about California.

You're right that this state does have one of the highest deficits and tax rates for high incomes. However, if you look at the figures, despite the tax rate, Californians still earn more per capita on average than Texans. If you're looking to save money, it doesn't necessarily make sense to move.

Look at this chart (http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/482.html) from the Tax Foundation. Texas's total tax burden is 7.9%, 1.9% lower than the national average, yet Texas's per capita GDP is $40,498, $2,041 below the national average. Obviously their lower state tax burden doesn't equate into more wealth for the individual. There are other factors involved.

Thanks for stating the obvious but why would one NOT chose something that is 100% doc and docx compatible with all the Windows counterparts?

If you need to compose a grocery list or a flier for your next garage sale then iWurk is for you I guess but for the rest of us that actually need to collaborate with other people in the real world, no thanks.

To be fair the Office '11 apps aren't 100% compatible, or at least not 100% 'exact'. Their preview last year had the guy saying for Word they had printed files out and made sure they were exactly the same between Windows and Mac. Oh how I wish they had done the same with Excel! Graphs, margins, page sizes and how they all relate together STILL cause quite some changes when crossing platforms.

Sounds a bit redundent given my Samsung TV, Sony Bluray, Humax PVR, XBox 360, Windows PC and my macs (with Twonky installed) already all play nicely together without needing a new standard.

and look at how many devices you have to do that lol

Are you people seriously applauding this? What a waste of our tax dollars!! I do contracts with the Navy every single day and I know that the technology that they have will not be benefited by the use of iPad/iPod/iPhone. The military does not offer wi-fi to their staff on base. Everything is hard wired and the conduit is sealed with a tamper proof silicon. The Government is very very particular about their SIPRnet (as they call it). Without wi-fi, what use is the iPad for the military other than to give them a little treat and waste our tax dollars? They already have mobile equipment in the vehicles that is far superior to Apple's products.

Because COTS products are always cheaper than contracts.

^ Yeah, how about voicemail? If its that important they'll leave a message. Shoot sometimes I even turn off my cell *GASP!* Dude, you need to go camping once in a while and get away from the world.

In my opinion, I don't think the "iPhone" will have more than 1GB just so that it wouldn't affect the sales of the lower capacity Nanos (the shuffle is an exception because its tiny and has a relatively lower concept).

I think that 1GB would be stupid. That's what's been holding back Music phones the most in my opinion.

Neither is Zuckerberg. He is not legally allowed to yet.

What country are you from exactly? Zuckerberg (26) is well above the legal drinking age in the US...

It is what I've been saying here for the last year. MR readers are not the target audience for the iPad, and that is why they have been so consistently wrong on the iPad's prospects until market data proves them wrong. We are NOT normal -- we like to hang out on a tech rumor site :)

The rest of the world gets the iPad and loves it.

I hang out on MR a lot. And a lot of other tech blogs as well. And I love my iPad 2.

Crap... I'm certainly not normal but I love iPad 2. What am I?

The iPad has broad appeal and I'm willing to bet at least a few people in that room love the iPad and didn't agree with Wozniak when he made the comment.

most places around my area are right about $3.95/gal. for 87 Octane, unless it is BP/Arco which will be a few cents cheaper typically.

I think I'm going to take it in anyways, first chance I get...I just feel like it's too unreliable and what if it happens again and there's an emergency where I need my phone? For what I paid for this thing, I shouldn't be worrying all the time that it will brick itself for no reason with no warning. I'm just concerned that if I take it in and it's working they won't swap it, and the closest Apple store is an hour away.

And don't worry, I try to back it up once a day or so...yes I am ocd :)

But all those chicklet sized buttons just look like a crazed Bedazzler-wielding mom attacted an innocent cell phone.

This was the funniest thing I've read all week.

I've been in insurance training, and in addition to financial people, there's been some, uh, "Desparate Housewives" getting their insurance licenses, and I'm picturing them passing around a poor phone and a bedazzler during class now.

I wonder what the IO performance of the reader is and what a 64GB drive might manage.

Be nice if the I/O was good enough to feed DVD/HD video. I'm thinking hard about a new Mini for my HTPC and since my media is on a 2TB FW800 drive - being able to store it on a card, instead, would be sweet. :D

(And yes, I am sure such a 2TB card, if and when it ships, would be significantly expensive).

This girl must have you star-struck, eh? Sending messages over to other computers in the apple store is difficult. They always have these odd names for ichat/bonjour services, so it's not likely you'll be able to do this on your first try. You could be sending a message to another GUY somwhere in the store for all you know.

The only way to really accomplish this is through ARD, and even then it's usually locked down with a password. I believe the password is the name of the OS at the time, then a symbol like a star, then the last two digits of the year. But whatever.

Honestly, is this girl THAT hot? If so, here's what you do:

-Gain entrance to the store via the opposite side of where she is (right or left door)

-Hide back by the genius bar/theater.

-When she makes her way to the back of the store to go to the back area, jump in front of the door, and say something witty like "MEAT PUPPET!" she'll be surprised. This is the moment of opportunity!

-Quickly crouch and grab the back of her legs, lift her and sling her over your shoulder.

-Then, sprint with her over your shoulder as fast as you can to the front of the store while making bellowing grunting sounds, even the occasional word like "UNGA!" or "MRAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

She will be both surprised and delighted that your ferocious behavior has gained the attention of her employees, that she'll willingly be your slave for years to come.

Course, you could always go with chloriphorm if all else fails.

    You got to wear knickers?!
I knew the nurses prepping me for my op's fancied me!

yeah as i said - HUGE - bigger than Bridget Jones pants, one-size fits all sort of thing

but still, glad to have been wearing those rather than going commando, given that they were going to be flinging my leg around during surgery... ;)

As ITR 81 already mentioned, they are already often selling at below their cost to attract customers. They don't have any room to go lower unless the studios drop their prices.

this is something that needs to be pointed out again. The complaint that Target has is the fact that the online download price is well below the cost it would be for them. You have to remember when they sell a DVD they only make 1-2 bucks off of it. Right now the stuff on iTunes is below what it cost them to get it and apple is making money off of it. Not losing it like Target is.

They are telling the studios they want to be able to buy the DVDs from them at a more competive price. If they do not get their way they will reduce the amount of shelf space for the DVD and reduce the amount they sell because of that. Net result is the studios lose more money.
